After a great year of music from the NOLA indie music scene, I took the time to compile my list of my top 10 projects that released this year. These aree the projects I listened to throughout the year as a fan of local New Orleans hip-hop.

The Show - Downman On Back Vol. 1

The Show is one of the most polished emcess out of the N.O. His wordplay, execution and flow are retail ready as made obvious by Mannie Fresh enlisting him as his companys flagship artist. In an attempt to build from the ground up, The Show spits over currently insyrumentals like Chris Brown's "Dueces" and even Justin Bieber's "Baby," while gliding over Jay-Z's "Can't Knock the Hustle" and the afortementioned Mannie Fresh's "Go DJ." His original track, "B-Boy Stance" lets you know that he is forreal...look for more instalments of the DOB series.

Natee - Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Natee has the internet going nuts...her lyrical workout sessions are readily avibale on all the major hip-hop blogs and judging by her sweep of the NOLA Undeground Hip-Hop Awards, she is up next. While she shows hip-hop is gender-blind by murdering "Switch," she also bring it from a female perspective on the "Ms. Yolanda" and "I Don't Love Em." She digs into her personal vunerability on "Dear Father" and "Back to the Block" showing the layers of a great artist.
Aquaforce - The Legend of Tony Earl

Lil Dee - The Spokesman

Lil Dee & Zone Gang have been putting a major stamp of New Orleans this year. While only 21, he has a solid five years of experience in making quality music. On the tail end of tracks with KLC, Fiend, and Baby Boy, we see Dee flex his own skill on some industry beat jacks and original anthems. "Never Let Go" featuring Snipe (formerly of Chopper City Boys) represents for the city, but Dee shows his talent by rolling over Kanye's "Grammy Family" and popular instrumentals from Ryan Leslie & Gucci Mane. Do not sleep on Lil Dee as he will be making major moves in 2011.

Crack Tracks & Aquaforce - The Legend of Tony Earl

A youthful, creative project pairing an up-and-coming group with an established producer/promoter. After the Burgundy mixtape, Mal E Mal & Future cmae back hard with the Camp Lo duo flows. This project had some original heaters like "Rebels" and "You Cant Stop the Reign," as well as some great beatjacks like "Bong Water" & "Hookah Bar." The "Boats & Hoes" bonus track was hilarious as well.

Ton Toe - Rolex & Tacaloc My Personal Scriptures

DJ Ice Mike presented a double download from NOBS memebers Ton Toe & Tacaloc. Both of these projects were great in staying true to a concept and giving the listener a view inside the mind of the artists. Both projects are a good listen as 1 Thing w Ton-Toe, Tac, Natee & Ms. Kendra Williams is one of my favorite joints of the year.

Quest - Elevated Elements EP

Quest showcased his catalog as a producer while highlighting his multi-dimensional skill as an emcee, songwriter and poet. One of my favorite original projects of the year, you should consider yourself blessed to get a full album for free. His collabs with Lil Dee, Phat Word and J-Dubble are all flawless and tracks like "A Yo Q!" & "Neo Soul Soul" show the content and depth of this artist. Be on the look out for this guy on the scene triple-threating.

D. Francis - D.E.F.

I am a fan on one producer, one emcee albums. On this album, Francis steps out of the Tygah Woods (NOLA Underground Group of the Year) shadow and make great music with NYC producer Son Sound. The beats and rhymes mesh well, as Francis flips lines over boom-bap driven soul samples. "Long Time Coming" & " You Do" featuring Elle show the range of D as a spitter and songmaker.

Nesby Phips - B-Side

Placing some records with Currensy & Tabi Bonney, the Phipster has elevated his world wide buzz and delivers on that buzz with B-side the follow up to "Phipstape." The opening three cuts, set the stage for the future in N.O. hip-hop. Remaining authentic & New Orleans to the core, Phips rides DJ Maximillions "Easy Peasy Japanesey" then slows down for "Early Birds." Without question Phips is bubbling unerneath the surface and will rise in 2011.

EF Cuttin, Heatabest, TheSeKondElement - Metrical Komposition

An unlikely duo, Heata & T2E trade bars over some aggressive production on this EF Cuttin assisted tape. "Same O" with rasta rap man BLVD is definitely a standout as is the collab with Spitraw "Deeper." Go Producer Dubb, from the Hut, flips the Pink Panther theme song on "Who You Know." This mix is deserving of a listen.

Suave has found the perfect spot in the progression of soul music to hip-hop and remains true to his spot, by keeping an emcees cadence while hitting all the right melodies. One of the better projects in terms of the sequence and concepts, this entire project is worth a listen.
